New NBA All Star Logo is a Slam Dunk

All Star logos can be monotonous. Usually you will see some kind of city back drop with a sports logo woven in. That’s not the case with the 2015 NBA All Star Logo. This logo is completely different from what we are used to seeing and I love it.

According to the league’s official release, the logo design pays tribute to the two host teams, the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks. The teams’ abbreviations, “BKN” and “NYK,” appear above circles bearing the teams’ respective colors and the year “2015.” The logo includes colors reminiscent of the subway and bus lines that connect each of the five boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island.

This is the 5th time that New York City will host the All Star game. The pregame festivities on Friday and Saturday night will take place in Brooklyn while the main game will tip off at historic Madison Square Garden.

Kudos to the NBA because everything that needed to be incorporated in a logo was. Rather than a skyline featuring the Empire State Building, they tied the two boroughs together using a local mainstay, the mass transit system. The gear featuring this logo is sure to be a hit when the game hits in February.

At Awesome Sports Logos, we feature both New York and Brooklyn with two of our awesome t-shirts. The first is the Brooklyn Leg Breakers.

This hockey sports logo features a little mafia history with the backdrop of the Brooklyn Bridge. In previous blogs, we’ve highlighted subtle little parts of a logo that you may not notice at first. Look at the stick tape. It’s wrapped in a way that highlights the initials “NY”.  I love this t-shirt. If you don’t, then as the mob says, “You can swim with the fishes”.

Our second awesome sports t-shirt is the New York Zouaves.

The Zouaves also known as the 11th New York Infantry took on the Algerian Zouaves name, uniforms and drill style during the Civil War. These volunteers actually started fighting immediately occupying Alexandria, Virginia just 24 hours after the state succeeded from the Union. At Awesome Sports Logos, we love history and the New York Zouaves are a fascinating bunch. They were great at spreading out their line so bullets would fly in between them. They also re-loaded their guns lying down which made it virtually impossible to hit them. Now that’s awesome!
