On and Off The Court Success with the Toronto Raptors Logo

The Toronto Raptors (NBA) debuted a new logo before this season started. The update was much needed, and it’s bringing the team some success! Currently sitting in the top five in the Eastern Conference, with one of the best records in all of basketball, the Raptors are giving everyone a fight! With a mean new look, they are taking the court by storm! Let’s take a look at their old and new logo, side by side.

On the left, we have the old Raptors logo, followed by the new look on the right. At first glance, it’s a major upgrade. Once you go over it in detail, it’s a MAJOR upgrade! The old logo featured a cartoon-esque dinosaur. It’s showing its teeth, so it has a bit of a scary feel. But overall, it looks pretty silly. I think it’s looks like something out of a kids cartoon show, teaching the youngsters about dinosaurs on a Saturday morning. The red color is overpowering. There’s too much of it. Yes, red is the team color, but the way it consumes the logo, coloring the dingy dino and and the top border, makes it an eyesore.

Now let’s take a look at their new 2015-2016 emblem. THIS is a logo. The red has been scaled back immensely. It still exists, highlighting the outer edge of the picture, giving it a wonderful accent. The words “Toronto Raptors” circle around the center image, with a bolder look than in their previous logo. It clearly defines itself, and stands out. This is a great way to shout out who you are, and where you’re from! Of course, the best part of this new logo is front and center. A simple basketball, turned deadly. Raptor claws have grabbed the ball, tearing it to shreds. Surely, this is a metaphor for the team tearing it up on the court! This image of the claw marks keeps the feeling of a mean, fierce Raptor in your mind, but without the silly cartoon look.

Overall, I give the new Raptors logo an A+ in improvement. This team is displaying a new look, and complementing it with exceptional results on the court. You know who else is rocking the game of basketball with an awesome logo? The Toros Del Chorillo. Chorillo is one of the poorest parts of Panama. This section of town has in fact been through a lot. We’ve heard that they selected the bull logo because a bull is a true fighter and a sign of strength, something that the residents of Chorillo have needed to survive.

Pick up this super soft t-shirt, and show off your mad skillz on the court!

The New Los Angeles Rams Logo Falls Short

Los Angeles, where glitz and glamour shine bright and where stars are born. It’s Hollywood baby and more importantly for the NFL, it’s millions upon millions of opportunities for sponsorships and ratings in America’s second largest city.

With the huge news of the NFL relocating a team for the first time since the Oilers moved in 1997, I was hoping that the now Los Angeles Rams would unveil a new fresh look. Maybe bring back the white and blue colors that looked sharp or even a fresh looking Ram.  Here is what we received instead in their logo reveal.

They could have taken their time and developed a fresh look or some kind of twist. The excitement was already there. There was no rush to unveil the new logo but the Rams almost did it immediately. This is L.A where trendy is part of their daily lifestyle. This logo made its way from St. Louis even before the equipment and office supplies.

I’ll admit, I haven’t seen any sports logos of Rams across the country that have blown me away. You would think a creature that can do so much damage with its horns has the potential to be a top selling logo. Maybe a change is in their future. A great start would be to go back to the blue and white helmet and uniforms. When people move to another city or a new house, it’s a fresh start. The Rams should do the same with their logo and uniforms.

We do have two sports logo t-shirts that are based in the Los Angeles area.

A Chiweenie might look cute in purses, but you can’t make a sports logo with a purse. I love how this logo came out with a mean looking small dog jumping out at you with the spiked collar.
Our second California sports logo has two names.

Awesome Sports Logos is proud to introduce the California Crazy Eights (also known as the California Ocho Locos).

Off the coast of the Golden State on the Pacific Ocean floor is an eight-legged creature that is truly fascinating. Most common is the California Two-Spot Octopus. In case you’re ever asked to identify a Two-Spot, just point out... well, never mind, no one will ask you. We love this cool California t-shirt. This octopus means business. Only two tentacles are occupied with a ball and a bat, and that means you better keep an eye on the other six!

Thanks as always for reading and checking out Awesome Sports Logos where unlike the Rams, our goal is to bring back the fun and creativity back to sports logos.

Creative Valentine's Gift Ideas for Men

Alright ladies, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. This year, you should get the special guy in your life something AWESOME. How about an awesomesportslogos.com t-shirt? There are plenty of designs, covering several different interests! These shirts will make your guy the center of attention in his group. Plus, they are super soft, which make it just as comfortable for you, as it is for him! Here are some of our most “manliest” shirts:

A Doughboy is a term used to describe an American soldier. This term dates all the way back to the Mexican American War that focused around Texas. Some say it originated because many noticed that U.S. forces were constantly covered with chalky dust from marching through the dry terrain of Northern Mexico making the men look like unbaked dough. There are many other theories on the nickname, including how the infantry baked with rice and dough during war rations. What’s more manly than this? A hardcore, tough soldier running into battle. He’s representing his team well, dressed for battle and carrying his trusty bat! He’s ready to knock any opponent out of the park!

This basketball club logo takes on the name of the rich Luchador tradition, that dates back to the early part of the 20th century. The popularity of the Luchadores has spilled over not just to wrestling, but also to cartoons and movies. Many Luchador wrestlers are heroes in their culture. Getting this t-shirt for your guy will get you some brownie points. When he opens up this super soft shirt, get ready to tell a story. Tell him how it symbolizes how strong he is, and how much you love and respect his willingness to fight for you. This will definitely get him to do some chores for you! This awesome team logo will make his friends wish they had one just like it!

Are you talkin’ to me? The Brooklyn Leg Breakers play hockey, hard core style. If they could break through the ice and make you swim with the fishes, they would. This logo was inspired by the many New York mafia stories of old. Cigars. Suites. Breaking people’s legs. That’s about as tough and manly as it gets. This super soft t-shirt has to be number one on your list! Be sure to tell your special guy just how strong and tough you think he is. Once he sees this shirt, and you tell him that you feel so much safer when he’s around, you’ve got one happy guy!

With the day of love coming up, make sure you let your man know how much you care. Any of these t-shirts would be great gestures! Any of our super soft shirts would make great gestures! But, you know what’s even better? A gift that keeps on giving. Get him a subscription to our t-shirt of the month club, and he’ll get a new shirt every month! That would make you AWESOME!

Celebrate National Bootleggers Day

January 17th is National Bootlegger’s Day! Yes, I promise this is a real thing!

When Prohibition began in the United States, on January 17, 1920, many people across the nation stepped in to take matters upon themselves. People started brewing their own alcohol, and others started transporting the illegal to anyone who would buy it. This was all in an attempt to make a large profit. Some folks didn’t even care about the money. Some felt it was wrong for the government to take away their alcohol.

Beer, whiskey, wine. People wanted it. People needed it. Someone had to give the citizens what they wanted. Someone had to brew it up, and deliver it, under the cover of night. Several precautions were taken to avoid police, federal agents, and any person that would rat them out. A new crop of people came into existence. Some of these folks were caught, and a lot of them were able to get away with it. These people would eventually be known as bootleggers.

It is said that the term “bootlegging” began during the Civil War. Soldiers would sneak liquor into their camps by hiding pint bottles in the boots underneath their trousers. Parts of Tennessee became famous for bootlegging. In fact, Johnson City Tennessee was known as a hideout and a stopover point for Al Capone. Prohibition was lifted in 1933 and Tennessee Whiskey has been flourishing ever since.

In honor of these people, considered heroes in their era, we encourage all of you to show them support, on their day of remembrance. What better way to show your support for National Bootlegger’s Day, than our awesome, super soft Nashville Bootleggers t-shirt.

This Nashville sports logo is carrying a Tennessee Whiskey barrel instead of a football. Pick up one today, or add it to your t-shirt of the month club rotation!

Happy Bootleggers Day!

Sports Logos Helping New Years Resolutions

As we bring in 2016, many people are making their resolutions for the new year. We hear some of the same goals each year: hit the gym, eat healthy, quit a bad a habit, save more money, etc.

While many people give up on these resolutions at some point during the year, many others are able to accomplish their goals. I have my own resolutions for 2016, and I plan on using some amazing awesomesportslogos.com t-shirts to help remind me of them daily. These super soft shirts will hold me accountable!

Here are my resolutions:

1. Watch more baseball.

As a baseball writer, and obsessed fan, I have made it my goal to watch more of America’s favorite pastime. I want to use that time to grow as a writer, and grow with my family. I want to take my daughter to her first MLB game this year. I want her to be able to experience the game, and witness the love I have for baseball. I know she’ll have a blast, and it would make for great family bonding time! To remind me to stick to this goal, I plan on wearing the Boston Accents shirt.

This shirt plants a large baseball right at the center. It will be a great reminder to stick to this resolution!

2. Get out of the house more.

Everyone should take some time to relax. With a busy family life, and a hectic work schedule, I want to ensure I take some personal time. What better way to do that, than to experience the great outdoors? Hiking, camping, and enjoying nature. These are all things that I want to do more of, as I take my mind off of the chaos from work. As a reminder to get outside more often, I will be sporting the Portland Tree Huggers t-shirt.

With a strong, sturdy tree front and center, this super soft shirt will encourage me to take a break, and enjoy nature!

3. Become a better dad.

I want to make sure that everything I am doing benefits my daughter. I want to be the ideal role model, and someone that she wants to look up to. When I live my day-to-day life, I want to ensure that all decisions I make are with her in mind. As she grows up, and looks back, I want her to know that her father did everything he could to raise her right, and provide her with all the opportunities she needed to succeed in life. What better way to hold me accountable to this, than the California Crazy Eights shirt?

This sports team logo features an octopus. It’ll serve to remind me to act like I have eight hands, all the more to do things to become a better father.

These few shirts are going to be great additions to my wardrobe! On top of styling new shirts, I’ll have those constant reminders to not give up on any of my 2016 resolutions!

If you like any of these shirts, or any others from our awesome selection, add them to your t-shirt of the month club rotation!

Brandiose is Bringing Back the Fun and Creativity to Sports Logos

The motto when I started Awesome Sports Logos was to bring the fun and creativity back to sports logos. Hopefully you have found several of our logos creative with some great local meaning behind them. That’s what logos should be about.

I’ve been meaning to write about this company for a while because they deserve a lot of credit for what they have done. Brandiose is knocking it out of the park with some of their sports logos. You won’t see a bland logo come out of this company. Their logos are unique with rich local history. How do they know that history? Because they visit the market, speak with the teams and the locals. They do more than just a Google or Wikipedia search to find out the local history. Here are some of my favorite logos that Brandiose has come up with.

The El Paso Chihuahuas

Now one of the top selling Minor League Logos, it was awesome to fly into El Paso International Airport and see several stores proudly selling Chihuahuas merchandise.

The Biloxi Shuckers

The original “Seafood Capital of the World is highlighted with this logo. It’s awesome how they made a mollusk look so serious.  Anyone can make a lion look ferocious but Brandiose can make an oyster look like a .330 hitter with some pop in that bat.

The Spokane Indians

This once again highlights the diversity of Brandiose. This is a perfect example of embracing the culture and history of an area. This logo’s lettering is in Salish, the language of the Spokane Tribe.  In an era where many Indian logos are disappearing, this is a rare instance where the tribe gave their blessing on this logo. I’m fascinated with the Salish lettering and coupled with the history, this is what an Awesome Sports Logo is all about.

The Akron RubberDucks

Akron is the Rubber Capitol of the World. I love the weaving in of a mean looking Rubber Duck with tire tracks. We had the same concept with our Akron Rubbers Logo when we made our racing t-shirt.

Here are two of their latest projects, the Hartford Yard Goats and the Norfolk Tides.

Baseball is returning to Hartford for the first time since 1952. The new team did a “name the team” contest and Yard Goats was the choice. It was up to Brandiose to come up with the logo and to me, they nailed it. I especially love the logo colors. According the Yard Goats website, they pay tribute to the Hartford Whalers which I think is an awesome detail.

Some were upset when the Norfolk Tides changed their logo. I can’t understand why. The wave sports logo to me was just there. I thought it was a really cool idea to embrace the history of the team by keeping the name but making the logo fresh and marketable. This logo also continues to embrace what Norfolk is all about. I can guarantee that merchandise sales will go up in Norfolk.

Tides-New-Header

Kudos to you Brandiose! You are bringing back the fun and creativity back to sports logos and doing it the right way. We think you are awesome!

Of our baseball logos, the one we get asked, “Is that a real baseball team” is our Idaho Taters cool t-shirt. It was our first logo created and is still one of our favorites. You can pick up the Taters and add it to the list as part of our T-shirt of the Month Club.

Thanks as always for reading, you guys are awesome!

Happy New Year!!
