Sports Logo Spotlight On the Historic New York Yankees

The New York Yankees have been one of the most successful sports franchises in the entire world. With 18 division titles, 40 American League pennants and 27 World Series Championships, the New York Yankees have dominated Major League Baseball. Some of the best players to have ever played the game of baseball have called Yankee Stadium home. In fact, there are 44 Yankees players and 11 Yankees managers in the baseball Hall of Fame. These include Babe RuthLou GehrigJoe DiMaggioMickey Mantle, and Yogi Berra. Of all the things one could speak to in regards to the New York Yankees, there is nothing more historic than the club’s traditional, interlocked “NY” logo.

The consistency of their logo, and their numerous successes, have led to the New York Yankees being one of the most popular and most recognizable sports franchises. Since officially becoming the Yankees, back in 1913, the club has had eight different variants of the interlocked “NY” logo. They have all been mostly the same, with a few tweaks here and there.

In addition to their “NY” ball cap logo, they have another awesome image.

The bat and ball logo has been around since 1947. It’s had one reworking, in 1968, but has essentially remained the same. I absolutely love the baseball background, with the bat strategically placed as the line of the letter “K” in the word Yankees. The script being cursive adds some flair, which is a nice break from the more traditionally seen block lettering. And of course, Uncle Sam’s hat sitting on top of the bat seals the deal. It’s patriotic and symbolic. It sends a subliminal message that the Yankees are the “America’s Team” of Major League Baseball.

If you are looking for a little more Yankees history of a different kind, here are the best WAG’s in Bronx Bombers history and they have some good ones.

We have our own logo from the Empire State, and that’s the New York Zouaves!

The name Zouave actually comes from Algeria and was first used by the French army as they recruited military from the Zouaoua tribe. Zouaves are distinguished by their uniforms which included short open-fronted jackets, baggy trousers and often sashes and oriental headgear.

The New York Zouaves also known as the 11th New York Infantry took on the Zouaves name, uniforms and drill style during the Civil War. These volunteers actually started fighting immediately occupying Alexandria, Virginia just 24 hours after the state succeeded from the Union.
