Earnhardt's Absence Hurts Nascar

Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced last week that he would be missing the rest of the NASCAR season. He has missed the last six races, attempting to recover from concussion symptoms. Doctors believe that Earnhardt Jr. suffered a concussion in a crash at the Michigan International Speedway, back on June 12th. Reports state that he has been undergoing tests and evaluations related to this concussion, which has caused issues related to focusing on objects at a distance and balance.

With 12 races to go, the Hendrick Motorsports team will use Jeff Gordon and Alex Bowman to fill in. Missing the remaining NASCAR season won’t have any negative impact on Earnhardt Jr.’s standings, as he wasn’t slated to make the Chase for the Sprint Cup anyhow. The No. 88 driver is looking towards the 2017 season already, saying he that he “plan(s) to be healthy and ready to compete at Daytona in February.”

Earnhardt Jr. will be 42 years old next month. He has 26 wins in his 595 career starts. Never winning a Sprint Cup title, his best finish was third overall in 2003. He has seen a resurgence in his career as of late, making the last five Chase for the Sprint Cup runnings.

Fans are definitely behind Junior, as he’s proven to be a NASCAR fan favorite driver over the last 13 years. He’s been voted Sprint Cup Series Most Popular Driver every year since 2003. A lot of that may have to do with his father, NASCAR Hall of Fame Driver Dale Earnhardt Sr. Senior was another fan favorite, being one of the most popular drivers in the sport, until his untimely passing in a NASCAR race in 2001. Despite the fame that the “Earnhardt” name carries, Junior has earned fame in his own right.

He has appeared in several movies, including “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” and “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” among others. Junior hosted a television show on the Speed Channel, has been featured twice on MTV Cribs, and has leant his voice to numerous voice acting roles. Being so involved in the media has led him to gain additional fame and notoriety, above NASCAR.

We at Awesome Sports Logos certainly hope that Junior is able to recover from these concussion symptoms, and we look forward to seeing him back on the track in the 2017 season. A healthy Dale Jr. means a much healthier sport. We don’t like the feeling of not having an Earnhardt on the track.

As an aside, we truly want to thank you for reading all of our blogs and supporting us by buying our t-shirts. We actually have a funny racing t-shirt. Hailing from the beautiful Midwest and the birthplace of LeBron James, it’s the Akron Rubbers.

Akron is the fifth largest city in Ohio and is also known as the Rubber Capital of the world, or “Rubber City”. At one point in the early 1920’s, Goodyear, Firestone and General Tire each had their headquarters in Akron and that’s how they got their anointed nickname. Goodyear is still based in the city.

Ferdinand Schumacher, the inventor of oatmeal and breakfast cereal, hails from Akron but we felt as though the Akron Oatmeal wouldn’t be a best seller. We do however feel as though the Akron Rubbers and our speedy tire logo on a super soft t-shirt will be a favorite. We love the name and the history that surrounds our awesome Akron Rubbers sports logo. Grab it today or better yet, get it as part of our T-shirt of the Month Club and enjoy some serious savings. Now that’s awesome!

Thanks for reading and following us!

YOU are AWESOME!

Sports Logo Review of the Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers have a lot of buzz surrounding them with LeBron's return. It's certainly not for their logo.

I don't hear a lot of people rip the Cavaliers' logo and that makes sense. Often times, a logo is as cool as those who wear it. The most popular player in the league now wears it, so, naturally, it looks cooler. (In Stephen A. Smith voice) Howevuh, this logo is about as generic as can be.

It has a basketball, the team's name and city, an item--in this case, a sword--and some outlining to add color. That's it. The logo is void of subtle detail, unique and defining characteristics, and significance to the area. If you ever need a template for a generic logo, this is it.

With all of that being said, I can get beyond that frustration to see some positive in it.

I like the color combination. It's a unique shade of red with blue and yellow complementing it, nicely.

The sword offers some personality as it strikes through the lettering. Plus, it eliminates some ambiguity about the specificity of the 'Cavalier' name and helps put some life to it.

The font is a seven on a ten-point scale with credit offered for the underline of the 'S' which smoothly blends into the image. I like the blue shadow that exists within the yellow outline.

But, I still go back to the generic feel and absence of connection this logo has which makes it tough for me to smile down upon it with a favorable grade. Like LeBron's mysteriously no longer-receding hairline, this logo will need some juice to spruce it up.

While researching this logo, we found this Cavaliers retro logo thanks to sportslogos.net. The Cavaliers used this logo from 1983-84 through 1993-94. When I see this logo I think of great names like Larry Nance, Mark Price and Brad Daugherty.

Speaking of LeBron the Akron, Ohio native, we have our own sports logo for his hometown.
